Shop Policies

Our shop rate is $66.00 per hour.

The minimum shop fee for all service work is $25.  This amount will be collected at drop-off as a deposit to be applied to the final bill.

The minimum diagnosis fee for all shop work is $25.  Complicated or more in-depth diagnoses will be billed by the clock (see shop rate).  For example, the diagnosis of a ZTR hydraulic system may take at least 45 minutes and would therefore be billed at $49.50.

Repair Times

Other than the services listed below, all shop work is taken on a first come, first served basis.  One exclusion to this policy is warranty work for equipment and engines that were purchased from Bill's — Ariens, Briggs & Stratton, Gravely, Hustler, Kawasaki, Kohler, RedMax, Ryan and Stihl.  Equipment and engines purchased elsewhere do not receive priority warranty status.

Our workload remains steady throughout the year with a spike during peak grass-growing season and/or periods of intense weather.  We rarely have a shop wait less than two weeks and it can be much longer in the spring.

Customers seeking routine maintenance or repairs of spring/summer equipment such as blowers, trimmers, mowers and ZTRs are encouraged to have this work completed well before spring hits, such as in December or January, and our backlog significantly increases.

Warranty Repair

Bill's is an authorized dealer for equipment made by Ariens, Gravely, Hustler, RedMax, Ryan and Stihl, as well as engine brands Briggs & Stratton, Kawasaki, Kohler and Subaru, and can provide warranty service for those manufacturers.  Equipment and engines bought from Bill's in need of warranty service get priority service ahead of other general repairs.  Equipment and engines bought elsewhere are dealt with on a first come, first served basis like any other repair.

Please email us to make sure we can provide warranty service for other brands before loading up your equipment and coming to our shop.  Unfortunately, we see too many people mistakenly come to us due to outdated web sites or incorrect information from a manufacturer's customer service department.  We do not provide warranty service for MTD brands (e.g., Cub Cadet, Remington, Troy-Bilt, Yard Man, Yard Machines, etc.) or Craftsman units typically made by AYP / Poulan / Husqvarna.

If your equipment was not purchased at Bill's please bring proof of purchase when you drop off your item for repair.  Proof of purchase will help expedite the warranty approval process with the manufacturer.

Please be aware of the terms of your warranty.  Lawn and garden equipment warranties have a limited term and scope of coverage, including some broad exclusions.  There is a difference between an item still being under warranty and an issue being covered by the warranty.

The biggest non-warranty issue we see every day is a unit not starting or running properly due to fuel-related issues, namely problems caused by the presence of ethanol in our local gasoline.  It is in your best interest to be proactive regarding fuel issues because no manufacturer will provide warranty coverage for a fuel-related problem.

No item is to be dropped off with the expectation of warranty coverage.  Determining that a problem is covered by warranty can only be accomplished after a mechanic's inspection and diagnosis, or possible consultation with the manufacturer or one of their representitives.  If an issue is not covered by warranty the customer will be responsible for the diagnosis fee if no repairs are made, or parts and labor if the equipment is repaired.
